Upcoming MERSEA missions for the week of the 4th May 2026:

From Monday, May 4 to Wednesday, May 6: Oral presentation by Camille Carpentier at the GDR Biofouling and Environment, in Villeneuve-d’Ascq (as part of the CARBOREEF project).

7 May 6: Diving mission as part of operation SARG ALIEN, in Courseulles-sur-Mer. Scientific work on sargassum beds and other algal species. Underwater observations, measurements, sampling, light handling, photo and video documentation. Operations are carried out when weather conditions are favorable, depending on the tides.


Personnel involved:

  • Richard FARIZON, Léo CHASSELIN and Jérémy BENHAMOU.

Monday, May 4 will also be used to collect samples at the University of Le Mans, and to gather immature cuttlefish in Cherbourg — and catch new ones in Courseulles on Thursday, May 7.


These operations will be carried out jointly by Joël HENRY, Marius GRANJEAN, Frédéric GUYON, Benoît VERON and Hugo BATORI, a second-year Intechmer student.

At the same time, a mission is taking place in Bangkok (Thailand), at Mahidol University: thesis defense and seminar given by Mrs. Céline Zatylny Gaudin, Director of the MERSEA laboratory (April 27 to May 7). The seminar for April 30 is attached.

On May 2, the thesis defense of Thiraphon Deethaisong will take place (photo below, whom we hosted for 7 months in our laboratory). His thesis is entitled: INVESTIGATION OF THE EXPRESSION, ROLES, AND MECHANISM OF REGULATION OF NEUROTRANSMITTERS IN THE FEEDING AND GROWTH IN THE FEMALE FRESHWATER PRAWN, MACROBRACHIUM ROSENBERGII.
