From August 24 to 28, MERSEA will host Professor Shinya SHIKINA, Director of the Institute of Marine Environment and Ecology (National Taiwan Ocean University, TAIWAN)
The highlight of the week will be on Wednesday, August 26, with the CNP Meeting on the identification of the neuropeptidome in corals at the Luc-sur-Mer marine station.
The Franco-Taiwanese ANR-CNP research project aims to better understand the biological characteristics of scleractinian corals by focusing on their neurobiology. Scleractinians, or “stony corals,” belong to the phylum Cnidaria, which includes sea anemones, hydras, and jellyfish. These animals do not have a central nervous system or a brain, but possess a simple, diffuse nervous system.
The goal of the CNP project is to explore the neurobiology of corals with three objectives: (1) to comprehensively identify neuropeptides using a multi-omic approach, (2) to determine their functions, and (3) to determine their distributions as well as how their expression changes in response to environmental changes.
