MERSEA at the Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) International Conference in Glasgow

MERSEA participated in the international Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) conference held in Glasgow from February 22 to 27, 2026.

Lise Delatte and Camille Carpentier, two PhD students from the MERSEA laboratory, attended the conference.

Lise presented the results of her PhD project Dystro-B, highlighting the impact of nutrient imbalances on the physiology and ecology of phytoplankton in the Seine Bay.

In the context of changing inputs of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), particularly the increase in the N:P ratio, this multi-scale study revealed clear physiological acclimations of the dinoflagellate Scrippsiella acuminata.

These experimental results corroborate time-series analyses, which show a decline of this species under high N:P ratios. This research helps improve our understanding of how nutrient variations shape the biological productivity of the Seine Bay.

Camille presented a poster based on her PhD project CARBOREEF. The aim was to compare two methods for monitoring primary production associated with artificial reefs, as well as to assess the ecological benefits of eco-designed reefs—particularly in terms of biodiversity and primary production—compared with conventional artificial reefs.

This event enabled the two PhD students to exchange with international researchers, enrich their reflections on their research questions, and take part in an international scientific dynamic dedicated to the study and preservation of marine ecosystems.
