Research themes

Research on marine macroalgae (seaweeds). Scientific contributions to the understanding of littoral ecosystem functioning through field sampling and remote sensing.

Research Focus::

Study of the invasion dynamics of Sargassum muticum in the Bay of Seine through three actions:

  • Analysis of Sargassum proliferation: Monitoring of Sargassum populations by in-situ sampling (intertidal and subtidal). Quantitative and qualitative analysis of beachings (strandings).
  • Development of remote sensing tools to map and assess the biomass of Sargassum in open water and when beached.
  • Evaluation of Sargassum as an indicator of coastal water quality related to eutrophication.

Research Program:

SARG’ALIEN (2025-2029) – SARGAssum Issue on the Littoral of the baY of SEiNe ( ) – (Funding from AESN and the Calvados Department) – Evaluation of the invasion dynamics of Sargassum muticum on the Côte de Nacre (Mother-of-Pearl Coast), by relying on innovative remote sensing methods and studying its potential as an indicator of coastal water eutrophication. (Coordinators A.M. Rusig & I. Mussio, MERSEA).
