MERSEA – Missions for the Week of July 6

This week (it’s already July!), a diving inspection mission will take place as part of the CARBOREEF project.

Reminder: Study of the impacts on primary carbon production (more information available under “PhD Projects”) and scientific monitoring of artificial reefs in the Cherbourg roadstead.

The mission will involve underwater inspections, sampling, observations, and scientific monitoring of artificial reefs and other structures in the Cherbourg roadstead, as well as along the eastern breakwater (both the inner and outer sides), as part of the CarboReef project.

Field operations will be carried out whenever weather conditions are favourable and depending on the tides.

The entire staff : Richard Farizon (boat operator and diver), Léo Chasselin (surface support and safety), Pascal Claquin (diver), Camille Carpentier (diver), Jeremy Benhamou (diver), Eugénie Huguel (student)

At the same time, Katherine Costil, teacher and researcher, will serve on the examination committee for a PhD thesis defense at the University of Lorraine.

Sea sampling on the Fécamp mast will be carried out by Christelle Caplat, teacher and researcher, on Wednesday 8 July and Thursday 9 July, as part of the PEARL (FEM) project.

Throughout this week, as during the previous one, Yohan Ansel will be taking part in the COMOR survey off in Ouistreham, in collaboration with Ifremer. This survey aims to assess the scallop stock and improve scientific knowledge of the resource.
