Today, maritime infrastructures (dikes, jetties, quays, groynes, moorings, etc.) are neither designed nor built with the aim of enhancing and protecting ecosystems. The Marineff project aims to develop marine infrastructures that improve the ecological status of coastal waters along the English Channel.
The project seeks to design and implement new biomimetic infrastructures that contribute to improving ecological conditions in both France and the United Kingdom, while also engaging professionals and stakeholders in the process.
The MERSEA Laboratory (formerly BOREA-CAEN) is involved in the design and monitoring of eco-engineered submerged dike modules in the Bay of Seine and the Roadstead of Cherbourg, as well as in the monitoring of “rock pools” in the port of Ouistreham. Special attention has been given to the monitoring of primary producers and primary production.
MARINEFF (2018–2023) is a European cross-border project aimed at testing and deploying biomimetic maritime infrastructures in the France–Channel–England area.
